Disaster Profile

On March 2, 2012 a tornado tore through West Liberty, Morgan County Kentucky, USA which resulted in much devastation and damage.

Our Work

We have extensive experience in setting up points of coordination in post-disaster settings. These coordination points help to maximize volunteer interest while documenting homeowner needs. Because of this, Morehead State University’s Center for Regional Engagement (MSU) requested our assistance with the formation of the West Liberty Volunteer Reception Center (VRC). We were responsible for setting up a system of coordination to handle all individuals and groups who wanted to volunteer. We had to ensure they were productive and had a positive experience in the field. In addition to volunteer management, we were responsible for engaging in community outreach and workflow coordination. Essentially; we found homeowners affected by the Tornados, learned about what their needs were and could then connect them with volunteers.
