Program Summary

Disaster Profile

At the beginning of May 2010,  two-thirds of Tennessee experienced the awesome power of Mother Nature. They received torrential rains resulting in swollen rivers and streams to crest at record levels. As a result, both the Western and Middle areas of the state were faced with flooding on an unprecedented scale.

Our Work

In response to severe flooding, we launched the Tennessee Recovery Coordination Center (TN RCC) located in Antioch, Tennessee. Similar to Project Rhode Island, our staff focused on optimizing inter-agency communication. This would offer a fast and efficient response to flood survivors. We created an online database where we compiled resident requests and matched them with appropriate agencies. This allowed us to enhance communications between responding volunteer agencies,

During RCC operations we compiled, tracked and coordinated more than 1,000 work requests from across the state. At the same time, we set up an internal organizational infrastructure. This enabled the TN RCC to continue its operations after the project. We also tracked homeowners who were in need of rebuild assistance.
