On Saturday, January 15, the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai volcano erupted causing massive damage prompting multiple tsunami warnings for the surrounding areas. The full extent of the damage is uncertain, but there has been no request for international humanitarian assistance.

Now almost one week after the eruption, the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Information on the outlying islands has been slow to come out due to a communication connection being severed.
