October 25, 2023 - 11:00 (EDT) - Update 1

Hurricane Otis rapidly intensified yesterday, increasing in strength by 110 miles per hour in 24 hours, making it a major Category 5 storm, the strongest on record to hit Mexico. Otis made landfall early this morning, around 1:00 am local time, near the City of Acapulco on the Southern Pacific coast, which is heavily occupied by beach resorts and fishing villages. The reports detail severe impacts to communities, including downed trees and flooding. All Hands and Hearts’ Mexico Earthquake Relief program, located just south of Mexico City, is safe. Our teams will continue to monitor impact reports and assess if there is room to support.

We use information from reputable sources like the National Hurricane Center to make informed decisions regarding our responses to storms around the world.
