Latest Tropical Storm Fred Updates

August 19, 2021 - 14:14 (EDT) - Update 5

U.S. Operations – Fred made its way up past Florida as a Tropical Storm, into the Appalachian Region as a Tropical Depression before weakening further and heading up the east coast. There have been reports of tornado touchdowns in Georgia and South Carolina with no reported impacts. There are flooding impacts primarily in the Florida panhandle, and portions of both North and South Carolina. Currently, less than 1% of those impacted sarees have reported power outages. There have been no requests for assistance from any of the states at the time, but the team continues to monitor and reevaluate as needed.

August 17, 2021 - 16:15 (EDT) - Update 4

U.S. Operations – Tropical Storm Fred made landfall late Monday afternoon causing flooding across the Florida panhandle as it makes its way up past the Appalachia and Georgia areas. The greatest threat at the moment is flooding from the Florida Panhandle into Southeastern Alabama. Throughout the central panhandle we are receiving reports of fallen trees, down power lines and road flooding. Local and state crews are already working on clearing trees, powerlines and restoring power to the impacted areas and there has been no request for assistance at this time. Because of this, we do not currently plan on deploying a DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) but will continue to monitor for Fred as it makes its way across the south.

August 13, 2021 - 17:30 (EDT) - Update 3

International Operations – Tropical Depression Fred is currently moving along the northern coast of Cuba and thus far its impact throughout the Caribbean has been relatively low according to most sources. Due to the low impact, there is no plan to deploy internationally at this time.

U.S. Operations – Fred will strengthen back into a Tropical Storm before impacting the Florida Keys this weekend and before continuing onto the Florida panhandle making landfall early next week. While there’s a possibility that Fred can strengthen into a Hurricane before impacting the panhandle, the most likely scenario is that it will stay at Tropical Storm levels and the impacts will be within the capacity of the communities. We will monitor the storm for any changes.
