Program Summary

Disaster Profile

On March 3, 2019, 39 tornados touched down in the Southeastern United States. Over the course of 6 hours these tornados impacted portions of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina. The strongest of these was an EF4 tornado that devastated rural communities from Beauregard, Alabama to Talbotton, Georgia.

Our Work

On March, 13, 2019 our Rapid response team deployed to Opelika, AL. Our Rapid Response team identified a need for skilled chain sawyers and team leaders to assist with the ongoing cleanup and large influx of spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers.

The organization and control of the cleanup efforts allowed for us to plug in seamlessly and

timeously. Our sawyers were utilized to mitigate hazardous trees on debris sites, to ensure they were safe to bring in additional volunteers for the debris removal work.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers, we were able to effectively support residents in Opelika on their road to recovery.
