Midwest US Tornadoes

Over the weekend, storms and severe tornadoes continued to leave destruction in their wake. Six states reported impacts, but Nebraska and Iowa remain the hardest hit.

On Friday, powerful tornadoes tore through Nebraska and Iowa, flattening 50 homes and damaging hundreds more. Over 100 tornado warnings were issued that night, making it the most active tornado day in 2024. Omaha, Nebraska, and its surrounding regions endured the most devastating damage. One tornado caused an industrial building collapse with 70 people inside. So far, no casualties have been reported.

Destructive storms and at least 16 subsequent tornadoes have ripped through Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia on April 2 through the night of April 3. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes have reportedly toppled power lines, torn roofs off buildings, uprooted trees, caused numerous casualties and at least one death throughout the six states. More severe weather is expected in the region and millions of people remain under tornado watches.

On March 14, severe storms in the midwest US resulted in several life-threatening tornadoes impacting the states of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, most notably the Indian Lake region in Ohio’s Logan County. The disaster has caused three casualties, power outages for tens of thousands and widespread destruction of infrastructure.
