Since Wednesday, at least 20 people have died amid the outbreak of severe weather, including several people killed in southwestern Tennessee after a strong EF-3 tornado ripped through the city of Selmer. As of Sunday morning, some locations in Tennessee and Kentucky have reported double-digit rainfall totals from the event. Since Friday, the highest rainfall total was reported in East Memphis, where more than 14 inches of rain fell. As of Sunday, more than 90 tornadoes had been reported in at least 10 states, from Kansas to Ohio.
A new wave of severe weather is ramping up from Texas to Kentucky, with a severe thunderstorm watch and two tornado watches in effect into Thursday night. Little Rock, Arkansas, Shreveport, Louisiana,and Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee are all at risk of damaging storms. Severe thunderstorms through Thursday night could produce isolated tornadoes, hail and localized damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph.
At least two fatalities have been reported following a weekend of severe weather. Tornadoes were confirmed on Sunday in Arkansas, Missouri, and Michigan, while tornado watches and warnings remained in effect overnight across parts of Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. Widespread power outages have left more than half a million homes and businesses without electricity in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.
