Tropical Storm Ian is the ninth named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. All Hands and Hearts began monitoring the storm as a tropical depression brewing in the Atlantic.

October 2, 2022 - 11:04 (EDT) - Update 7

With our Hurricane Ian Relief program now in motion, we have staff and volunteers on the ground in Tampa, Florida. This weekend we are assessing areas such as Lee, Charlotte, and Cape Coral to review damage within these communities. Sawyers from our California Wildfire Relief program are heading to Port Charlotte today to fell hazard trees. We are also reaching out to local churches and other community groups to locate a program base close to impacted areas.

September 29, 2022 - 20:40 (EDT) - Update 6

Our team arrived in Florida today and will coordinate with state and federal agencies and other responding groups to ensure a collaborative approach to identifying critical needs. Volunteers will be arriving at the end of next week. Based on 17 years of responding to disasters, the extensive needs in impacted communities from this hurricane will require the support of hundreds of volunteers and at least a 12-month program commitment.

September 28, 2022 - 9:48 (EDT) - Update 5

After devastating Cuba, Hurricane Ian is now expected to be a category 4 storm as it hits the western coast of Florida. Currently, it’s only 2mph less than a category 5 and could increase as it makes landfall Wednesday night.  Florida will be hit with severe rain, storm surge, winds and it is highly possible for major flooding and tornadoes to occur. 

All Hands and Hearts is stationed and ready to respond to Florida and will be starting a volunteer program to support those impacted.

September 26, 2022 - 11:57 (EDT) - Update 4

Hurricane Ian is rapidly intensifying as it heads toward Cuba, Jamaica, and Florida. We have committed to sending a DART to assess impacted areas in Florida once it is safe, but for now we are closely monitoring Ian’s movements.  The storm is expected to hit the west coast of Florida as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane between Wednesday and Thursday. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued as high winds, torrential rainfall, and storm surges are anticipated to cause major damage. The impact and damages of Ian may be unprecedented and life-threatening in Tampa, FL and surrounding areas.

September 25, 2022 - 15:00 (EDT) - Update 3

Ian now has sustained winds near 50 mph with higher gusts. Rapid strengthening is forecast to begin tonight and it is expected to become a hurricane by early Monday and even a major hurricane by Monday night. We continue to monitor the storm as it develops.

September 25, 2022 - 9:00 (EDT) - Update 2

Tropical Depression Nine has increased in strength and has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Ian. It is currently located 320 miles SE of Grand Cayman moving west-northwest at roughly 12 mph. This is the ninth named storm of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season. All Hands and Hearts is monitoring the trajectory and potential impacts of the storm.

September 23, 2022 - 16:18 (EDT) - Update 1

It is predicted that Tropical Depression Nine will grow in strength over the weekend as it passes over Jamaica and Cuba. Current models predict a path that will affect Florida at the beginning of next week.
