We have partnered with a local grassroots organization; ProTechos to train their staff and volunteers in Flood Response Operations. ProTechos is an organization that is still rebuilding roofs in Puerto Rico. All Hands and Hearts has supplied them with equipment and experienced Team Leaders to allow ProTechos to respond to this and future events.

Our work is currently focused on the town of Juana Matos in the municipality of Cantaño. We’re focused on gutting and sanitizing mold in homes that had been flooded. We’ve been taking staff from ProTechos and training them in flood operations and assessments. Using ProTechos experience in roofing; we’ve also been fixing leaks in impacted homes where we can.

The severe weather caused several landslides across the region and dozens of schools to be closed on Monday. An All Hands and Hearts alumnus reached out on behalf of a local organization, ProTechos, requesting support for them and the community they serve. ProTechos, whose mission is to strengthen underserved communities in Puerto Rico through roof construction and related vocational training, is looking to build capacity within the community to respond to future disasters.

All Hands and Hearts will be sending a team consisting of our U.S. Disaster Response Manager and several All Hands and Hearts team leaders experienced in gutting and sanitizing. Our team will focus on training the ProTechos workforce in these scopes of work so that they can then train the local community and respond independently to similar events in the future. We will also be providing them with the necessary tools, equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to complete the work.

Our goal is to leverage our extensive disaster response experience to have a lasting impact by building capacity within a local organization and improving community resilience.
