Update 1
On January 1, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Japan, most notably affecting Ishikawa and its Noto peninsula, killing 62 people and injuring over 300. Aftershocks continued the day after on the peninsula, exacerbating the damage and destroying tens of thousands of homes and buildings, ultimately forcing over 100,000 people to evacuate. While the impact is significant, local relief efforts are in place, and there has been no call for international assistance. All Hands and Hearts will continue monitoring the event and new reports to assess if international support is needed.
